“PAVE it Forward” Project

On May 5, 2020, PAVE will be participating in Giving Tuesday Now – an emergency response to the unprecedented needs caused by Covid-19. This is a global effort to create a wave of generosity locally and around the world.

Domestic violence spikes during times of stress and hardship. The safer at home order and financial uncertainty make it harder and more complex for victims to escape. Parents have more responsibility with less resources, and children experiencing or witnessing abuse may have relied on school as their safe place. PAVE is seeing a marked increase in calls for help for victims and families. Our goal is to keep our shelter open, while at the same time protecting the health and safety of staff, survivors and families we serve.

PAVE recognizes we are all in this together and must support each other during this crisis. This is why we have started the “PAVE it Forward” Project.  PAVE is committed to helping local small businesses that have supported us for many years. So, we would like to “PAVE it Forward” by using your donations to purchase food and supplies from these businesses for victims and their families.

In addition to supporting local businesses, your donation will also help with the following:

  • $100 Safe night in hotel (1 night)
  • $50 Food and Hygiene Basket (5-day supply)
  • $25 Cleaning Supplies and Personal Protective Equipment
  • $10 Emergency Transportation (1 trip)

Sweet Thanks

Please join PAVE Friday March 6th for our annual Sweet Thanks!  Sweet Thanks is a fundraising event to help support PAVE, our local domestic and sexual violence service provider.  The event will be held from 5:30-9:00pm at the Chapel of the Archangels, 839 Madison Street in Beaver Dam.  Tickets are available for $20.00 each at Rechek’s Food Pride, Piggly Wiggly, and will also be available for purchase at the door. We can promise you an evening of fun for a great cause!

The night includes a live dessert auction featuring exquisite desserts, a silent auction, mystery dessert boxes, and an evening of fun for a great cause! Cash, checks, and credit cards are accepted for live and silent auction items and all proceeds go to PAVE to assist victims and survivors in our community.

In addition to individual tickets, tables can be purchased for $300.  When purchasing a table you will receive 8 tickets, prime seating, a bottle of wine, an assortment of desserts to sample during the event, and an opportunity to share this amazing evening with family and friends.  Tables will be limited to 10 this year so reserve your table fast.

Online Registration is Open for Run from the Cops 2019

Please join PAVE at the 2019 Watertown Run from the Cops.

Run from the Cops is a 10K run, 5K run/walk and 1K youth run sponsored by the Watertown Police Department to raise awareness and assistance to people affected by domestic violence.

The goal of this event is to raise awareness and funding for victims of domestic violence. 100% of our proceeds are donated to the victims of domestic abuse. Proceeds from the run since its inception has generated over $96,000. Funding goes directly to victim services.

Run from the Cops offers something for runners of all levels … and it is chip timed. Whether you’re a competitive distance runner or want to walk with your kids in the stroller, we encourage everyone to get involved. Join us for a great run that supports a great cause! And of course, enjoy donuts along the way!

We Care 5k Run for Families

We would like to thank Hustisford Horicon Cadette Girl Scout Troop 7340 for organizing a 5k walk/run to benefit PAVE.

The event will be held on Saturday, September 7th at Discher Park in Horicon. Registration opens at 8:30 a.m., with a 9:30 a.m. race start. Awards will be presented at 11 a.m. to the runners with the best times in adult male, adult female, youth male, and youth female categories.

Registration fees are $15 online/$20 at the door for adults and $10 online/$15 at the door for children ages 6-12.

Denim Day

Denim Day is April 24, 2019! We encourage everyone to wear jeans to raise awareness of rape and sexual assault!

Why wear jeans?

After a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court where a rape conviction was overturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped the person who raped her remove her jeans, thereby implying consent. The following day, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim. Peace Over Violence developed the Denim Day campaign in response to this case and the activism surrounding it. Since then, wearing jeans on Denim Day has become a symbol of protest against erroneous and destructive attitudes about sexual harassment, abuse, assault, and rape. We ask community members, elected officials, businesses and students to make a social statement with their fashion statement by wearing jeans on this day as a visible means of protest against the misconceptions that surround sexual violence.

Child Abuse Awareness Month

April is also Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month.

Wear Blue April 5 to show your support.

Every child deserve to grow up in a safe, stable and nurturing environment. We all can show our support by promoting and strengthening prevention efforts in our community.
Whether you are a parent, teacher, coach, neighbor, family member or friend you can help. Caring adults can support the healthy growth and development of children who have experienced abuse by trusting them and helping them recognize it is not their fault.

If a child tells you that he or she has been abused one of the most important things you can do is stay calm. You should also:

  • Listen to the child’s works and expressed emotions. Believe the child and stress that their safety is important.
  • Not pressure the child for information.
  • Reassure the child they have done nothing wrong. Abuse is not their fault.
  • Remember that the people who harm children is often people the children loves
  • Avoid negative comments. Encourage the child by telling them it was brave for the to tell you.

Anyone can report suspected abuse or neglect. Contact your local child protective services or law enforcement agency so they can access the situation.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month!

Sexual assault is a serious and widespread problem. Nearly 1 in 5 women and 1 in 67 men in the US have experienced rape or attempted rape at some time in their lives. 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually abused before they turn 18 years old. Sexual abuse includes engaging in sexual activities with a child, indecent exposure, child grooming, or using a child to produce child pornography.

When we talk about prevention, we mean stopping sexual violence before it even has a chance to happen. This means changing the social norms that allow it to exist in the first place, from individual attitudes, values, and behaviors.

Prevention is everyone’s responsibility: All of us can create and promote safe environments. We can intervene to stop concerning behavior; promote and model healthy attitudes and relationships; and believe survivors and assist them in finding resources.
