In addition to language barriers and culture barriers, Latino immigrants may fear deportation while seeking help from social services. Many Latino survivors fear the police due to heightened immigration enforcement policies and increased fear of deportation. Latino survivors say that intimate partners use immigration status as a control mechanism to ensure that they do not leave the abusive situation.
