Corporate Donations

PAVE is always looking for businesses to sponsor our annual Sweet Thanks fundraiser, sponsor a particular service we provide (for example, sponsor a shelter bed for a week for $525) or to be a collection site for donations.  Please contact PAVE’s Executive Director at 920-887-3810 or via email at eshier@pavedc.org if you would like to discuss corporate giving options.  We are happy to share your story of goodwill in our newsletter.

Securities, Stocks, Bonds or Mutual Funds

Your tax deductible gift will allow you to bypass capital gains taxes.  Publicly traded securities, stocks, bonds and mutual funds may be donated to PAVE at their present fair market value, including any “paper profit” in the stock.  In this way, you avoid the capital gains tax that would be due if the securities were sold.  In most cases, you can also claim an income tax deduction for the full market value the day of the gift.  Closely held stock also can be an excellent way to make a donation.

PAVE holds an account that you can donate to at:

Edward Jones
Richard Griep – Financial Advisor
203 Corporate Dr #200
Beaver Dam, WI 53916

(920) 887-7496

Wills

A bequest – making a donation through your will – is one of the easiest and most effective ways to make sure that your family and friends are fully provided for by your estate.  A bequest has the added advantage of lowering your federal estate taxes and reducing estate fee.

Through your will, you can specify that the remainder of your estate (after your family and friends are provided for) goes to charity, or you can specify that a charity receive a pre-determined fixed gift. If you already have executed your will, you can amend it easily through a simple legal device known as a codicil.  Please contact your attorney for more information about how to make these gifts to PAVE.

Trusts

When you decide to make a donation through a trust, you transfer property to the charity to be invested over your lifetime.  This charitable trust generates regular income to you and your spouse (or other designated beneficiary) for your lifetime(s).  When you and your beneficiary pass, the trust terminates, and the remaining amount in the trust goes on to the charity you choose.

In many cases, the income you receive from this trust during your lifetime will be tax free (depending upon the property used to fund the trust).  Also, there are no capital gains taxes on the property that is used to fund the trust.  There also may be estate and gift tax savings

Please contact your attorney for more information about how to make these gifts to PAVE.

Life Insurance

Life insurance has long played an important role in charitable giving.  Whether you donate an older policy you no longer need, or start a new policy to donate to a charity, this is a unique way to turn modest annual premiums into a significant donation.

Please contact your insurance agent for more information about how to make these gifts to PAVE.

Advocate

By supporting victims – both directly and on a representative level – you can make a difference in their lives.

When you hear about a legislative issue that impact victims, contact your representatives to tell them how you, their constituency, feels about it.

Be a Friend

Helping a friend or family member that is being victimized can be difficult.  Here are seven tips for how you can be most helpful.

  1. Listen – give your undivided attention.
  2. Don’t judge – recognize that disclosing what has happened takes immense courage. A victim’s choices may not always be the same as yours.  Understand that those choices are impacted by trauma you may not know about and understanding the abuser in a way you are not able to.  Validate the feelings and experiences you hear about and always remember that violence is never the victim’s fault.
  3. Talk safety – ask what you can do to help the victim stay safe. Many times outside assistance will help, but abuse may escalate when those outside the family are involved.  Try to involve the victim in any decisions to bring in assistance.
  4. Provide options and resources – give PAVE’s contact information as well as any other resources that can help meet the victim’s self-identified needs. Brainstorm options for responding to the situation and listen as the victim plays each of those out to determine a best course of action.
  5. Remember privacy – a victim’s story is their own. Do not share it with anyone without their permission.
  6. Verbalize that your help is unconditional – stand by a victim regardless of their choices. An abuser uses isolation as a tactic to maintain power and control.  If the victim feels that you will disapprove, they may believe their abuser’s claims to being the only one that is there for them.
  7. Be kind – praise all the little steps a victim takes to address their situation. Abusers deplete a victim’s self-worth.  Find ways to build them back up.  Stay positive!
